Gonstead System
THE GONSTEAD SYSTEM was developed by Dr. Clarence Gonstead (1898-1978) who practiced for over 50 years in Mt. Horeb, WI. The technique’s scientific exactness, its untraumatic effect on patients, and its predictability of prompt results, all help the Gonstead practitioner give patients the care they desire.

It is the thorough analysis, full spine, weight bearing x-rays, and specific adjustments that set the Gonstead practitioner apart from all others.

The Gonstead doctor begins your care with a very thorough analysis of your spine using five distinct criteria to analyze each individual patient for signs of subluxation and nerve pressure.

MOTION PALPATION

Motion palpation of the spine allows the Gonstead doctor to feel exactly which motion unit is not moving to its full ability and range of motion. This loss of motion is due to the loss of the integrity of the intervertebral disc in that specific motion unit.
VISUALIZATION
Visualization of the spine allows the Gonstead doctor to see postural problems, scoliosis, and observe the patient’s gait (how they walk).
NERVOSCOPE
The nervoscope is an instrument that detects temperature differences along the spine. These temperature differences are indicative of inflammation and nerve pressure in that area. This instrument is gently glided down your back at each visit.
STATIC PALPATION
This is simply the process of feeling (palpating) the spine in a neutral (static) position. Static palpation allows the gonstead doctor to detect muscle spasms, edema (swelling) and inflammation in the spinal joint spaces.
X-RAYS
If warranted, the gonstead doctor will take full spine, weight-bearing x-rays. Full spine weight-bearing x-rays allow the doctor to analyze the spine in its weight bearing position. This type of x-ray gives the Gonstead doctor a more accurate picture of your spine and lets him/her see the exact position of one bone in relation to the one
